It’s also one of the most comfortable letters to remember when writing. An L sound is even one of the most comfortable enunciating, making L an overall relaxed letter!
While it’s easy to write and say, that doesn’t mean you can’t make cool stuff. This guide will show you how to spice up this easy letter with a fun projection effect.
We’ll walk you through 6 fun and easy steps to create a cool version of this letter.

How to Draw A Bubble Letter L
Step 1
In the introduction to this guide, we talked about how the message L is one of the easiest to learn when writing.
The lowercase version is just a vertical line, and the uppercase version adds a horizontal part underneath.
It’s all pretty simple, but we will make it more complex with this version of bubble letters. That said, we will keep it very simple for this first step.
All you have to do is draw a simple vertical line. It looks pretty straight in our sample image, but don’t worry about it being perfectly straight.
Instead of using a ruler, draw freehand and don’t worry about it getting slightly wavy. We want it to be partially straight because the concept is to make it glance like a bubble.
You’ll see why we need it that way, as the design takes shape later in the guide. With this bar drawn, we can then carry on to step 2.
Step 2
The line we drew in the first step of the guide is the inside edge of the main column of the letter. Next, we draw the top of this part of the pillar.
This part should be as easy as the first step, if not easier! All you have to do is draw a curved part above the line.
This extends in an arc to the left. If you can do the previous row and this one in a single movement, that would be ideal, but you can split it in two if you find it easier.
If you need to practice the motion to draw these lines, don’t worry because you will open up!
With this top of the pillar drawn, we can draw the other parts of the pillar in the next few steps, so let’s move on.
Step 3
As promised, we’ll draw the rest of the main column inside your bubble letter L in this step. This is accomplished with another wavy vertical line.
Again, it’s okay if your hand gives a little and makes it wavy. Our reference image shows that the line has a fairly pronounced dip.
This will only help the letter look even more like a bubble or balloon, which is why we’re not aiming for perfectly straight lines.
When you’ve drawn that last vertical line, there’s a space at the end of the letter.
This is a space we’ll easily fill in when we finish the outline in the next step of the guide! Let’s move on to this outline if you like the look.
Step 4
Now it’s time to finalize the outline to prepare you for some extra fun details in the next step. Looking at the letter L, you will see a straight base.
We’ll draw this base in this step, and it will make another long, curved shape. This base starts and ends where there is a space left in the last part.
As forever, you don’t require the bar to be perfectly straight, but it should be fairly flat since it’s the base of the letter.
With that line added, you’ll see that the bubble letter pattern is complete! However, we’re still in progress.
In the next step, we’ll add some fun details to complete the bubble effect, and then we’ll add colours in the last step.
Now that you understand what to anticipate let’s move on to step 5!
Step 5
Your character outline is ready but needs to look like a bubble. We’ll fix that in this step and add other fun details you might like.
Adding a reflective point is the first step to making it glance like a bubble. We can do this by adding an oval near the top of the letter.
This simple little shape makes the letter look like it’s made out of latex or bubbles, but we’re still going!
It still looks flat, so let’s add some lines inside the outline to make it look full of air. We’ve only added a few of these lines, but feel free to add more.
Now you’re ready to add some colour! However, you don’t have to go any further just yet.
There are so numerous ways to make the design even more unique. A fun idea would be to pull a string from the L to make a balloon out of it.
Or you could pull some fun designs or shapes in the letters to make it more visually interesting. These are just a few ideas, but there’s no wrong way to complete this drawing! You can even create a few different versions if you need more than one idea.
Step 6
This is the final step in this guide, and it’s all about having fun adding colour to your bubble letter L!
We showed you how to colour this note, but you can take control and add your twist to the design at this stage!
In our example, we used a blue colour scheme for the letter. Colours can also help the letter feel more like a bubble.
You will see that the colour of the letter is dimmer in some places than in others. We’ve brought the lighter colours closer to the reflective oval we drew earlier.
This makes the letter feel less flat on the page and is a cool effect. You can use this technique no matter your colour, so switch up the colour if you like!
You could also take a different approach and create a texture for the letter. We could cover it with fur, scales, or whatever you like by drawing some extra details.
